Disability & Diversity Policy

Jon Watson Consulting is a small partnership comprising two partners, working with a number of self-employed associates, providing consultancy services to clients in the public and private sectors.

We are firmly committed to equality and diversity in all aspects of our work. We know that people can be unfairly discriminated against on the basis of their age, disability, gender, race, religion, sexuality and other issues. As an organisation we believe we can positively influence how diversity is valued in our society.

Members of the team have unrivalled experience in promoting diversity in housing development. Jon Watson commissioned the research that led to the publication of Accommodating Diversity, a design guide for housing in a multi cultural society. With Claire Charlton, he reviewed and updated its findings in 2003. Jon Watson also commissioned the research that led to the publication of The Wheelchair Housing Design Guide. He was the chair of the group that developed the proposals for accessibility in the NHF report Standards & Quality in Development. All of these documents are listed as the key references in the Housing Corporation (now HCA) Design & Quality Standards.

We believe that valuing everyone’s contribution benefits our organisational culture and creates competitive advantage.

Statement on Promoting Disability Equality
We recognise that many disabled people face barriers to access and achievement in employment. We are committed to eliminating discrimination and harassment on grounds of disability and promoting equality of opportunity between disabled people and other people.   We believe that through our work we can help promote equality and diversity.
In order to meet the general duties of the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, we will;
  • Promote equality of opportunity between people with disabilities and other people
  • Eliminate direct or indirect discrimination;
  • Eliminate harassment of people with disabilities that is related to their disabilities
  • Promote positive attitudes towards people with disabilities
  • Encourage participation by people with disabilities in public life
  • Take steps to take account of people’s disabilities, even where that involves treating people with disabilities more favourably than others.
It is the responsibility of every partner and associate within Jon Watson Consulting to treat people with respect, regardless of their disability status, and to make a positive difference to disability equality within the work environment.
Statement on Diversity
Diversity refers to the broad range of visible and non-visible differences that characterise people.  Some of these qualities include age, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender, marital or parental status, religion, political belief or socio-economic background.   In addition, we recognise the differing qualities, knowledge, skills and abilities individual people bring.

In building the Jon Watson Consulting brand and team, we believe in creating an inclusive environment in which everyone feels valued, where their talents are being fully utilised and in which our goals are being met. In sourcing talent, knowledge and experience to support the work we deliver for our clients, diversity simply means business sense. We acknowledge the unique contribution that all potential associates can bring in terms of their culture, ethnicity, race, gender, nationality, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, education, experiences, opinions and beliefs. By understanding, respecting and using these differences, we recognise that we can maximise our competitive success as a consultancy business.
